National Day of Prayer
|
|
|
Image: Organiser of the event, Pastor Danny Nalliah of Catch the Fire Ministries FGAM was one of the supporting churches for the “National Day of Prayer” held on Australia Day. Pastor Roland was featured on the brochure for this event and this was his message to fellow Christians …
“Australia Day serves to remind us of the Christian heritage Australia is blessed with. As an Asian pastor called to this great nation I encourage all ethnic pastors and Christians to break down walls through united prayer on Australia Day.”
Allan Khoo represented Pastor Roland at this wonderful event and was seated on the platform as the morning of prayer and celebration unfolded.
The following report, by Peter Stokes of Saltshakers, presents something of the importance and impact of the occasion.
Almost 5,000 Christians from across Victoria joined with many church leaders to pray for our nation and celebrate Australia Day at Festival Hall in Melbourne on January 26, Australia Day.
Few empty seats were left by 10.30am as Pastor Stuart Robinson, of Crossway Baptist Church welcomed everyone to this unique celebration.
Australian flags were the backdrop to the stage on which sat more than 20 church leaders representing most mainstream and Pentecostal denominations. An Aboriginal pastor and representatives from Anglican, Baptist, AOG, COC, CRC, Charismatic Catholic, Presbyterian, Salvation Army and other denominations and all took part by leading prayers and reading the Bible.
Four young people, two high school and two university students, prayed and passionately shared their vision for a revival of Christian faith and values on school and university campuses.
The enthusiastic crowd representing every denomination, waved hundreds of Australian flags, sang heartily and enthusiastically joined in the prayers. This was an unprecedented sign of unity across the Christian Church.
Media attempts to marginalise both the event, Pastor Danny Nalliah and Catch The Fire Ministries who had worked tirelessly for many months to organised it, clearly had no impact on the event. In fact, they might have actually assisted in making this the great occasion it was with all their free publicity.
Mr Howard’s Australia Day greeting and reminder of the important part Christianity had played in the founding and shaping of this nation was enthusiastically received. Kevin Rudd was invited to give a greeting and had said he would do so, but apparently travel commitments prevented him from preparing a message.
We congratulate Pastor Danny Nalliah and his team for organising such a wonderful prayer gathering and celebration. This awakening of the many things that unite the Christian church was a truly memorable occasion for everyone present.
