Healing the sick and casting out demons?
Serene Ng's Testimony
|
|
I admit, when I first heard of the Elijah Challenge or the End Time Model of Evangelism, I was skeptical. I believe God has the power to heal the sick, but I didn’t believe God would use me to heal the sick to proclaim the kingdom of God. There are so many more qualified people out there, those who have studied at Bible College, those who know more and understand more about the Bible.
Why would God choose me? I’m not special like the 12 Apostles or like the pastors and leaders. Yet somehow, something had made me sign up, and once I did, there was no turning back.
The Elijah Challenge was held for 3 nights, Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7pm. Coming back from school with parents who worked full time, and going to these meeting was not easy. I was sorely tempted to skip the meetings.
It was especially difficult giving up my Saturday sleep-in to go to a seminar which I had thought was a I do not regret turning up despite being so tired after every session. In the sessions Pastor William Lau preached about the Authority given by Jesus to all believers, in order to proclaim the Kingdom of God. It is easier for non-believers to believe in Jesus when they see miracles with their own eyes.
He strongly emphasized that Jesus gave both the 12 apostles and the 70 disciples instruction to “Heal the sick and say to them, The Kingdom of God is come nigh to you” (Luke 10:9) and the 70 came back saying to him
“Lord, even the devils are subject to us through your name” (Luke 10: 17).
In addition, he taught us about “Faith in God” and “Faith of God” and the difference between them. Most of us have Faith in God but lack the Faith of God.
Faith in God means believing that God can do anything, but the Faith of God means believing that God does His work through us and that He has also given us authority to heal and cast out demons in His name. As humans, especially Asians, most of us lack confidence in this area. Believing we can cure the sick and commanding the pain to disappear, without doubting for a second, is much more difficult than it looks. Most of us are too afraid to try to heal other people, in fear that if the miracle does not happen, not only will we look foolish but we might also cause others to have a stronger resistance to God.
According to Pastor William Lau, the “Faith of God” happens when we have strong and unshakable faith. In Matthew 17:20, Jesus says to his disciples
”I assure you that if you have faith as big as a mustard seed, you can say to this hill, ‘Go from here to there’ and it will go. You could do anything”.
Having a faith this strong, without doubting but instead expecting the command to be fulfilled, is what most of us lack.
I really liked how after every session time was allocated for practicing ministering healing to the sick. On the first session, we tried mass healing. After both Pastor William Lau and his wife had demonstrated once on a member of the church and succeeded, we were given the opportunity to try it out for ourselves. We placed our hands on where the pain was and then followed him as we commanded the pain to leave in Jesus’ name.
Several people were healed and came up to testify: these included my mother and I.
I had a pain on my left ankle. As an active student, I would often play sports, especially badminton and basketball.
Mid last year, while representing my school, I tripped over another player and sprained my left ankle. The sprain never really healed, and although I did not usually feel the pain when I walked, I could not turn it sideways without sharp pain.
First session, when we were asked to place our hands and try healing ourselves, I placed my right hand on the ankle.
When we started commanding the pain to leave, doubts kept on plaguing my mind: I knew that God could heal, but would God heal my ankle this way.
To my amazement I tested my ankle and it was around 50% healed. During this time, I also noticed that my hand felt hot and my right arm was numb. As it was not fully healed, I tested it again the next few days, but there was no change. Then a few days after the seminar, I tested it again and this time it was fully healed. Even now, I am amazed by what God did and am still quite shocked that my ankle is fully healed.
The Elijah Challenge was a really worthwhile and life changing seminar. It not only opens the door to another perspective which had never crossed my mind before, it also increases the faith of every believer, that our God has given ALL his disciples the authority to save souls and proclaim his kingdom.
It especially encourages those who have family members or friends who are not Christians, to enable them to witness miracles first hand, proving that Jesus is the only way to God. As Jesus said (John 14:6)
“I am the way, the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father except by me.”
The Elijah Seminar was truly a remarkable and life changing event. I pray that this window of opportunity will open once again to those who missed it, and this time I urge you all, attend the seminar, it is anything but a waste of time.
