Shepparton Bursaries

In 2002 a vision to help aboriginal students from our sister church in Shepparton, Rising Sun Assembly, was conceived by our Missions Committee. Min Leong was given responsibility to fulfill this vision. Through his persistence and unfailing stewardship the FGAM Bursary Committee was formed in November, 2006 and held its inaugural meeting on 5 December, 2006.
The FGAM Bursary Committee consists of:
Chairman: Min Leong Ong
Secretary: Steven Lee
Treasurer: Say Heng Tan
Committee Members: Lawrence Chong, Mee Ing Ong andLip Moh Teo.

From 5 December 06 the Committee developed policies and procedures for awarding bursaries. Schools were contacted and interviews with aboriginal students from Rising Sun Assembly conducted, culminating in the award of bursaries to 10 students from three different schools in Shepparton on Australia Day, 26 January, 2007.
The following morning, a team from FGAM joined Rising Sun Assembly in Shepparton to witness the MP for Shepparton District, Jeanette Powell, present bursary certificates to successful students. In her speech, she congratulated FGAM for its vision in helping aboriginal students. She felt privileged to be part of this program which endorsed cross-cultural integration and encouraged students to further their education. The Bursary Committee hopes to Shepparton District MP, Jeanette Powell extend this bursary program to deserving aboriginal students in the Shepparton area who are not members of Rising Sun Assembly. We hope to help alleviate the circumstances of the Shepparton aboriginal community and positively impact their children’s academic development, giving them a real opportunity to realize their full potential in God.

FGAM has sown the seeds and we pray for God’s grace in reaping a bountiful harvest at the appropriate time.
“A man reaps what he sows…Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.” (Gal 6:7- 10)
Thanks to church members who donated generously towards this Program. Thanks to our Missions Director, Raymond Seow and members of the Bursary Committee for the successful development and launch of our Bursary Program in near record time, ready for commencement of the 2007 school year.
May our Lord continue to bless our quest to help the needy in our community. Glory to God.
