Fungus Launch

An electrifying atmosphere filled FGAM’s freshly renovated sanctuary on the evening of February 9. As dozens of youth poured in for the Fungus launch many were surprised at all the changes. A buzz of excitement filled the room as many high schoolers saw each other again and anticipation for the night filled many conversations.
This is the 3rd year for Fungus and the first year Fungus is held on Friday night. The leaders and I felt great anticipation for the launch of this new time slot. Our first theme this year is “Fungus Kung Fu”, teaching youth about spiritual disciplines in their lives.
As usual vans went out to schools and many friends were brought. It was a jammed packed night with a total of about 70 high schoolers. We started with awesome praise and worship that had everyone jumping up and down and worshipping God. Then there were all the funny videos of the introduction to Fungus Kung Fu as well as Vernis and Serene showing us how Kung Fu people make announcements.
An audience capturing game of Pictionary on the main sanctuary screen followed and then Ps. Quentin preached an important message on making New Year’s resolutions. The night finished with the prize draw for an IPOD nano, which was won by Shan, a first time visitor to Fungus. Altogether it was a fantastic way to kick-off this new year of Fungus.
Despite all the “first night” excitement we also said good bye to one of our long serving high school leaders, Janice Mok. After much of her life spent here in Melbourne, she has gone back to Singapore where God has called her.
All the leaders and I are so pumped about what God is doing in Fungus. It’s going to be an exciting year as we see God move through this ministry. Special thanks and congratulations to our actors and crew who produced the fun and funny Fungus Kung Fu video segments. We have used video clips as a regular part of Fungus and it’s great to see the innovation and creativity and the growing professionalism in these valuable components.
Fungus is an outreach program so it’s great to see new contacts coming to our program, to hear the gospel and find faith in Jesus Christ.
It also provides an important ministry to FGA youth, not just in worship, teaching and encouragement, but also in many opportunities to minister, such as through music, technical support and participation.

Year 7 & 8’s “Adventure Park” Day Out
While the high schoolers were on holidays in January we took the opportunity to spend a day with our Year 7&8’s. On January 24 about 8 high schoolers joined the trip to Geelong’s Adventure Park. We wanted them to get to know some of the others in their year level, and it gave us time to get to know them better too. Despite the hot weather and early start to the day everyone had a great time. Activities included kayaking, archery, mini golf, volleyball and for some even going on the massive water slides. It was a great day out with heaps to do. We all came back exhausted but satisfied from this fun day out.
